Scholarships & Awards
In support of our core mission and the goals of Soroptimist International of the Americas, Soroptimist International of Long Beach (SILB) has an ongoing commitment increase access to education for women and girls through the following projects:
LIVE YOUR DREAM AWARD – The Soroptimist International Live Your Dream Award is a cash grant for women who are seeking to improve their employment status by gaining additional education and training. Awards are offered at the club level. Winners may also be nominated for regional and national awards. Applications are accepted annually from June 15th through October 15th. KATHERINE WHITE, M.D. AWARD – In memory of Dr. Katherine White, a dedicated leader in Soroptimist International of Long Beach for 42 years, her family provides an annual cash award. Eligible applicants are prior Soroptimist International of Long Beach Cash Award or Scholarship winners. Applications are accepted annually from October 15, 2017 through January 15, 2018.
LBCC SCHOLARSHIPS – Soroptimist International of Long Beach donates scholarship funds to Long Beach City College annually. Long Beach City College student may apply through the scholarship office at http://www.lbcc.edu/scholarship/.
CSULB SCHOLARSHIPS – Soroptimist International of Long Beach donates funds for re-entry scholarships to Women in Philanthropy at California State University, Long Beach annually. CSULB students may apply at: http://web.csulb.edu/divisions/students/scholarships/
GLADDES B. NEFF SCHOLARSHIP – This endowed scholarship is open to students at California State University Long Beach in the last year of study for a degree in a health care field. The scholarship is provided by a former leader of Soroptimist International of Long Beach, Gladdes B. Neff. The scholarship is administered by CSU Long Beach. As the founder of Meals on Wheels in Long Beach, SILB maintains a connection to this service organization. We provide an annual grant to Meals on Wheels to support their mission of meal delivery to elderly and disabled homebound persons.
