Over 100 guys and dolls showed up for Soroptimist International of Long Beach’s second annual Night At The Races. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner, good company, and raised more than $12,000 for scholarships, education awards and career training for women and girls in our community.
The evening started off with the guys strolling through the silent auction items and making sure their bids were competitive to get the items they wanted most and even included a cash prize for guessing the number of chocolate pearls in a jar. Soroptimist International member, Judy Hirsch guessed the closest number and walked away with $300 in cash. Auctioneer, Scott Burchard, revved up the audience by skillfully auctioning the bigger experience items which included a week for six in a luxury home in Palm Desert, a pair of round trip Southwest tickets, a Gondola Getaway and a THUMS island tour and lunch. Pam Seager and her husband, Scott Burchard, won the grand prize, a winner’s circle photo taken with the winning horse and jockey of the Soroptimist race.
Congratulations to Co-Chairs Maggie Shapiro and Robin Thorne for a successful event. The co-chairs thank all of the committee members, Lynn Shrum for donating the $300 cash prize, all of the community and club members who donated auction items, and Jaye Johnson for her hard work collecting donation items, organizing, and planning.
