Founded in 1924, Soroptimist International of Long Beach (SILB), a California Nonprofit Corporation, is a volunteer service organization for women in business, management and the professions. Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls. Our network of around 80,000 club members in 130 countries and territories works at a local, national and international level to educate, empower and enable opportunities for women and girls. SILB is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax exempt organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent provided by United States law.  Our federal taxpayer ID number is 95-6120533. Soroptimists are women of all ages, cultures and ethnic groups. Members represent a wide array of professions, including doctors, attorneys, teachers, chief executive officers of companies, nonprofit executives, business owners and government officials. A Soroptimist is a leader in her community. She believes that by joining with other women and engaging in awareness, advocacy and action in the service of her community and society, she can make the world a better place for humankind.  So can you! Many noteworthy women have been Soroptimists, including a United States Supreme Court justice, the first woman to serve as the mayor of a large city in the United States and the 1962 recipient of the United States  President’s Award for Distinguished Civilian Service. Soroptimist clubs accomplish their service goals based on individual community need. Members make a difference for women by concentrating on:
  • health
  • education
  • environment
  • human rights/status of women
  • economic and social development
  • international goodwill and understanding
